Text From Your Computer With This New Android Feature, Rolling Out Now

Messages for Android will soon allow you to text from your computer. The feature is rolling out this week, according to Google.

Messages is the default SMS app on Android, and also the best one for most users. The web version will give you access to all of your text messages on your computer, meaning no more typing on a tiny screen when there’s a nice big keyboard right in front of you.

You can head to messages.android.com right now to see the landing page, and there’s even a chance you can already use the feature. Just open Messages on your phone and tap the options menu. If you see “Messages for web” you’re ready to get started. If not, don’t worry: this feature is rolling out to all users this week.

Google is in the midst of replacing SMS with RCS, a plan that telecoms around the world are on board with. Features like this are presumably part of that rollout, which could eventually challenge Apple’s iMessage platform. For now, we’re just happy to easily send test messages from any computer.
