Redskins' Jamison Crowder out against Tampa Bay, his fifth straight game not in the lineup

Washington Redskins wide receiver Jamison Crowder has been downgraded to out for Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay. It will be the fifth straight game he has missed since injuring his ankle in an Oct. 8 loss to New Orleans.

Crowder did some work in practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, but it always seemed a reach to expect he could play Sunday against the Buccaneers. He has said his injury, initially described as a sprained ankle, was actually more severe and needs extra time to heal.

Washington’s coaches were expecting Crowder to be a big part of the team’s offense this year after catching 66 passes for 789 yards last season. But his leg injury has held him to just four games and 13 receptions for 134 yards.

Both Crowder and Redskins Coach Jay Gruden have said the wide receiver needs to let his ankle heal fully before he can play in a game.

The loss is another blow to an offense that will be without third down specialist Chris Thompson (rib) and left tackle Trent Williams (thumb). Washington also lost starting guards Shawn Lauvao and Brandon Scherff for the season in last week’s loss to Atlanta. Receiver Paul Richardson underwent shoulder surgery last week and is out for the season as well.
